Why work with businesses? This interactive workshop will support you to critically assess your motivation for working with businesses and to give you an understanding of what you can realistically expect of any relationship with the private sector.

The session will cover:

  • Skills, Resources andTime. Assessing and examining what skills, resources and time your organisation needs to commit to working with businesses. Looking at alternative options such as using brokers. Ensuring organisations have a realistic view of what resources they need to work with businesses.
  • How to Engage Businesses. Tips, dos and don'ts, importance of maintaining and developing an up to date database of contacts
  • Doing the Deal. How to negotiate and structure deals with businesses; typical procurement processes of large corporates, use of legal agreements or not.
  • Developing the Relationship.How to build and develop the work organisations can do with businesses, how to provide a quality service that businesses will pay for, relationship management
  • Q&A time at the end for attendees to ask any questions not covered during the above.
  • Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss their own organisation's situation and get feedback/input from other attendees as well as the trainer
The trainer: Dominic Pinkney
Chief Executive of Hammersmith & Fulham and Camden Volunteer Centres and not-for-profit social enterprise Works4U. Based in West London, Works4U's social mission is to help businesses to support the community through volunteering and related activities. Dominic is an expert on Employer Supported Volunteering (ESV) and has provided consultancy to voluntary sector organisations and businesses in the UK and in Europe. He co-founded the London ESV Network which brings together ESV brokers and providers to enable businesses to provide greater and more sustained support for the community. He is also a Big Assist Beacon for Change
This workshop is for voluntary & community organisations based in London only. 1 place allocated per organisation as these events are in high demand!
